VTT – beyond the obvious. www.vttresearch.com
We are working with demanding customers and exiting applications from terrestrial 5G telecom systems to autonomous systems connectivity, space and satellite 5G telecom integration. Examples of our results:
We are hiring seasoned experts and new talents on ICT and electronics!
With us you will be responsible for
At VTT, you would be designing photonic modules and contributing to their assembly, packaging and testing. You will work in close collaboration with our other design and packaging experts, who will teach you to use our design and simulation tools, as well as our assembly, packaging and test equipment. Module-level integration of photonics is a multidisciplinary research topic that involves optics, optoelectronics, electronics, mechanics and thermal management. It deals with silicon and compound semiconductor chips, ceramic substrates, PCBs, flip-chip and other hybrid integration methods, large-area integration on polymer substrates, optical fibers, lasers and hermetic sealing, for example. Successive fabrication steps have to be co-designed, taking into account compatibility issues and the thermal properties of materials. VTT has in-house processing capabilities for silicon photonics and other photonic integrated circuits (PICs), Si-based Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS) and Low-temperature co-fired Ceramics (LTCC). In photonics module assembly, optical alignment tolerances are typically very demanding compared to electronics. Module design is done using advanced 3D design and simulation tools, such as COMSOL and IronCad.
We expect you to have
Minimum requirement is a Master’s degree from a relevant field, such as electronics, photonics or physics. If you have recently completed your Master's degree, you may be interested to continue towards a doctoral degree. From your studies or previous work, you should know the basics of optics, electronics and thermodynamics. Any experience in electronics manufacturing, microelectronics, integrated optics, fiber optics, optoelectronics, semiconductor physics, MEMS, clean room processing or metrology can be a valuable asset and worth mentioning in your application.
As a person you are
Enthusiastic about the possibility to develop state-of-the-art photonic components and modules in national and international projects for a variety of applications ranging from ICT to sensing and infrared imaging. You should have the ability to use your theoretical knowledge to solve complex problems. You should have good cooperation and networking skills, as well as fluent written and oral communication in English.
Opportunity to work on challenging and interesting assignments in the well-equipped R&D environment of MicroModule Centre (Oulu). At VTT you can also have flexible working hours, good personal development prospects and the benefits of a large employer. With us, you will be building bridges from basic and applied research to commercial products. You will be supported and coached by top experts in the field. The details of the employment contract will be agreed on based on your career status and plans.
