The Beech Tree Academy Early Childhood Educator II or III is responsible to provide a safe, caring and developmentally appropriate early learning environment for a class of children between the ages of four (18) months and twelve (12) years. The Early Childhood Educator II or III uses Centre philosophy, programs and policies to maintain and enhance a standard of excellence that contributes to the Centre’s reputation for excellence. The Early Childhood Educator II or III is responsible for the following:
Child Development and Care:
• Facilitate the development and behaviour of children
o Uses a variety of observation and documentation techniques
o Facilitate cognitive, language, social, emotional, creative and physical development of children
o Facilitate acceptance of diversity
• Develop, implement and evaluate programs
o Research a variety of curriculum models
o Implement an inclusion policy
o Develop, implement, evaluate and monitor, toddler, pre-school, kindergarten, school-age or multi-age program as required
o Modify environment to ensure accessibility
• Support the holistic development of all children
o Build meaningful relationships with the children
o Identify and expand upon learning opportunities (teachable moments)
o Identify and support individual learning and development, diversity, equity and inclusion
o Maintain documentation of child’s development
• Meet health, welfare and safety needs
o Accommodate for children’s allergies
o Administer medication and/or procedures
o Implement preventative health and safety measures
o Develop and implement safe travelling practices
o Provide first aid and CPR
o Implement emergency and evacuation plans and security procedures and review safety-

Education Qualifications:
• Grade 12 or equivalent through the General Education Development program
• ECE Level II - Completion of a diploma program in Early Childhood Education
• ECE Level III - Completion of a bachelor degree program in Early Childhood Education
• Must be at least sixteen (16) years old
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
• Child Abuse Registry Check (for any person over the age of 13)
• Criminal Record Check (for any person who is over the age of 18)
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience demonstrated proficiency in child care standards of practice in a licensed child care setting
Specialized Knowledge:
• Promotes ethical practices and attitudes of the Nova Scotia Child Care Association
• Understands and applies relevant legislation which includes, but is not limited to, the following:
o Nova Scotia Department of Community Services Food and Nutrition Standards
o Fire Inspection
o Employment Standards Act of Nova Scotia
o Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety (including WHMIS)
o Nova Scotia Day Care Act and Regulations
Skills and Abilities:

• The Early Childhood Educator works in a noisy and busy environment with regular interruptions requiring the ability to change priorities quickly and tolerate stress
• Regular business hours with occasional requirement for evening and weekend work
• Regular outdoor work is required, including during inclement weather
Physical Requirements:
• Lifting to 60 lbs.
• Outdoor work, including snow shoveling and salting walkways
• Exposure to illness and noise
Salary and Benefits:
The Beech Tree Academy Early Childhood Educator II and III shall receive an hourly salary of $17 or $19 Canadian Dollars per hour.
The Beech Tree Academy Early Childhood Educator II and III has a 3-month probationary period starting from the beginning of their work start date.
In addition, The Beech Tree Academy Early Childhood Educator II and III will be enrolled in Beech Tree Academy’s group benefits package.
The Beech Tree Academy Early Childhood Educator II and III shall be entitled to reduced tuition rates for their children. Each child shall receive a 25% tuition fee reduction unless the children are receiving government full funding for enrolment in a childcare facility.
The Beech Tree Academy Early Childhood Educator II and III shall be entitled to 6 days annual paid sick leave and 2 weeks paid vacation after year one of exemplary job completion. Annual leave must be applied for in advance to the director to allow for proper staffing and planning purposes. Vacation increases to 3 weeks after year 3 of employment.
The Beech Tree Academy Early Childhood Educator II and III will have an annual review as per policy for all staff at Beech Tree Academy which will be designed to offer ongoing support and professional development of the director and to re-align the goals and mission of Beech Tree Academy in accordance with any changes in policy or programming deemed as required by the Board of Directors, Owners and Director.
