Are you a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist (CPO) looking for a role where clinical excellence, specialized patient care, and research go hand in hand? At Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we are shaping the future of healthcare, and we would love for you to be part of it.
Sahlgrenska University Hospital is one of the leading university hospitals in Scandinavia, with the ambition of becoming Europe’s foremost university hospital by 2032. Our work is guided by a commitment to quality, accessibility, patient safety, research, and innovation - always with the patient at the center. We invite you to join a dynamic, forward-thinking team in the vibrant city of Gothenburg.
The Unit of Prosthetics and Orthotics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital prescribes, manufactures, and customizes a full range of orthopedic assistive devices, including prostheses, orthoses, insoles, and braces, always with the patient’s individual needs at the forefront. Our department employs around 55 dedicated professionals, and our main facility is located at Falkenbergsgatan 3, where devices are manufactured on site.
We provide clinical staffing across hospitals throughout the Greater Gothenburg area and collaborate closely with habilitation units in the region. Our teams work in interdisciplinary settings, combining clinical expertise with a culture of continuous improvement.
As a national referral center (NHV) for dysmelia, Sahlgrenska handles some of Sweden’s most complex prosthetic cases. Additionally, we work with patients requiring osseointegrated prostheses, and a broad range of other prosthetic and orthotic patient groups—making this a truly unique and specialized clinical environment.
Innovation is embedded in our culture. We are currently running a major initiative to integrate 3D printing into the manufacturing of O&P devices, and we dedicate approximately half a day per week to improvement work, development projects, and professional skills development.
As a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist at Sahlgrenska, you will work clinically with patients who have complex and specialized needs, collaborating closely with our skilled teams of technicians. The role offers a rare combination of advanced clinical work and active participation in research and development.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Assessment, prescription, and fitting of prostheses and orthoses for patients with a wide range of conditions
- Participation in interdisciplinary care teams, contributing your specialist expertise to holistic treatment plans
- Contributing to research and development projects within the area, with opportunities to apply for dedicated R&D funding through Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the Västra Götaland Region
- Supporting ongoing improvement work and innovation initiatives, including our 3D manufacturing project
Most of your work will take place at the outpatient clinic at Falkenbergsgatan 3, with occasional sessions at one of the three hospitals across Gothenburg or with other clinics. We actively encourage clinicians who are motivated to combine patient care with research and development to explore these opportunities.
We are looking for a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist (minimum BSc), recognized by The National Board of Health and Welfare in Sweden as equivalent to the Swedish CPO education. You have experience working within prosthetic or orthotic care.
We believe the ideal candidate brings:
- Genuine interest in working with patients who have complex needs, and a person-centered approach to care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage empathetically with both patients and their families
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to coordinate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and external partners
- Flexibility, sound judgement, and the ability to plan and prioritize your own work independently
- A service-oriented, quality-conscious, and responsible approach to your work
Personal qualities are of great importance to us, and we place significant weight on your ability to contribute positively to our team culture.
This is a permanent position with daytime working hours and a flexible working-hours agreement. A probationary period may apply.
We warmly welcome applications from CPOs across Europe. If you are relocating to Gothenburg, our HR Welcome Services team will support you with finding accommodation, settling into your new city, and connecting with other new colleagues through social events throughout the year.
For CPOs educated in an EU/EEA country, Swedish language training can be arranged to suit your needs. If you hold citizenship outside the EU, we will assist you with your work permit application.
We look forward to hearing from you!
